Crooked Teeth = Cute?

In Japan, the "double-tooth" look caused by the front canines overlapping is considered cute in children and young women. The Japanese call it "yaeba" which means "double tooth". Many people wonder why Japanese models (like the one below) are proudly displaying their crooked pearly whites in photos – now you know.

    IMHO, this makes the models look younger. Japanese women are fixated on looking younger, and little girls around 8-9 years old have adult front teeth while the rest are “baby” teeth. That would explain why they don’t want to fix the alignment of their teeth.

    I think it IS cute. Imperfect can be very cute. This is what my teeth looked like before. They’re straight now, but that was much more due to a dentist’s prodding than personal desire. That’s not to say oh my teeth were so cute, but rather that I don’t think cosmetically “fixed” is all that.

    I’ve been living in Japan for about 4 months now and this has been driving me crazy! I was wondering why there were so many people with bad teeth.

    Now I know.

    Now, I wonder if I can DO anything about it…. lol
